LOS ANGELES, CA, July 27, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ — LIG Nex1 introduced the 2.75-inch Low-Cost Guided Imaging Rocket during the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise, the world’s largest maritime exercise organized by the U.S.
RIMPAC, which marks its 28th anniversary this year, is a drill conducted by the U.S. Navy to enhance the ability to protect maritime routes and interoperate allies’ military capabilities among Pacific Island countries. It is also a venue for networking among each country’s navies as well as for promotion for countries targeting the U.S., the world’s largest defense market.
LIG Nex1 said that it received great attention from navies of each country by displaying a low-cost guided imaging rocket that can be applied to vessels such as unmanned surface vehicles at the training site during RIMPAC.
A 2.75-inch low-cost guided imaging rocket was developed in 2016 to respond to target movements, and it is equipped with a guidance and control system in a small diameter of about 7cm and can respond to multiple targets at the same time.
In addition, it has great mobility by applying the mounting method, and the vehicle itself is equipped with both a target detection and a launch control device, allowing it to perform a solo mode operation.
As South Korea’s first guided weapon, the low-cost guided imaging rocket had excellent results in the U.S. FCT (Foreign Comparative Testing, a U.S. Defense Department Program to evaluate allies’ equipment and technologies) and proved performance.
LIG Nex1, a domestic guided weapon maker, has also conducted joint marketing with Raytheon, a leading U.S. defense company, to enter the U.S. defense market. In August 2021, it participated with Raytheon in the “Navy League’s Global Maritime Exposition” in Maryland, the US, to introduce the low-cost guided imaging rocket, and propose a launch pad system that can be applied to Unmanned Surface Vehicle for the navy on the ground.
